The Holy Mother and Son Revered by the Holy Quran Processed by: Zahra Ejlal Translated by: Fatemeh Khazaii Messiah (Jesus Christ) in the Holy Quran The personality presented by the Holy Quran regarding Prophet Jesus Christ- The Messiah (AS) - is by far more sublime and lofty than that presented in the Bible(s) presently available. The Holy Quran confirms certain beliefs of the Christians about Prophet Jesus Christ (AS) and rejects some others, including trinity and the crucifixion. The Birth of Christ Jesus is the son of Mary who is the daughter of Imran. The wonderful life of Mary with its story has come in the holy Quran with certain details. It is said that due to the vow of her mother, Mary went to Jerusalem, then after an event Prophet Zechariah accepted her adoption through a draw. To give an answer to those who claim that Jesus is God, in verse 45 of Al-I Imran and other verses of the holy Quran, Jesus is introduced as the son of Mary. For one who is born by a mother and goes through all the stages of evolution of fetus which is the characteristic of matter cannot be considered as God. And as we know God -The Almighty is not subjected to any change or evolution. The holy Quran says: “He said, ‘So shall it be. Your Lord says, “It is simple for me.” And so that We may make him a sign for mankind and a mercy from Us, and it is a matter [already] decided.’ Thus she conceived him, then withdraw with him to a distant place. The birth pangs brought her to the trunk of a date palm. She said, ‘I wish I had died before this and become a forgotten thing, beyond recall.’ Thereupon he called her from below her [saying] ‘Do not grieve! Your Lord has made a spring to flow at your feet. Shake the trunk of the palm tree; freshly picked dates will drop upon you. Eat, drink and be comforted. Then if you see any human, say, “Indeed I have vowed a fast to the All-beneficent, so I will not speak to any human today.” Maryam, 21-26 When people found out that Mary was pregnant, they started to denounce her by saying: your father was a good man, then how come you have become a bad girl and became pregnant while you are not married…. When Mary was laboring, she asked the Lord:” Oh God what should I do? Then the voice of angel said to her: leave the city. Then Mary went to a place outside the city where there was a dry date tree, and then God asked Mary to sway the tree, then there were fresh dates ready from that dry tree by miracle and occult power, Mary ate from those dates and eventually she gave birth to her child. Mary gave birth to his son away from the sight of people and then she went among the people, she was reprimanded by them. By God's command, Mary told those people to ask the child. “Then Jesus said, ‘Indeed I am a servant of Allah! He has given me the Book and made me a prophet. He has made me blessed, wherever I may be, and He has enjoined me to maintain the prayer and to [pay] the Zakat as long as I live, and to be good to my mother, and He has not made self- willed and wretched.” The Holy Quran (Maryam, 30-33). By this way God saved Mary from their accusations in a miraculous way. Mary the choice of God As Quran said: “And when the angels said, ‘O Mary, Allah has chosen you and purified you, and He has chosen you above the world’s women. O Mary, be obedient to your Lord, and prostrate and bow [in worship].” The Holy Quran, Al-I Imran 43-44 Mary the interlocutor to angels Indeed Islam has regarded women with great values. In fact whereas women were looked down upon in societies, the holy Quran describes women with high values, women can reach to a position that they can talk to angels of God. As the Holy Quran says: “When the angels said, O Mary, Allah gives you the good news of a Word from Him whose name is Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, distinguished in the world and the Hereafter, and one of those brought near[to Allah].” The Holy Quran, Al-I Imran; 45-46 “We revealed to Moses’ mother, [saying], ‘Nurse him; then when you fear for him, cast him into the river, and do not fear or grieve, for we will restore him to you and make him one of the apostles.' The Holy Quran, Al-Qasas; 7 “Thereupon he (that is the angel Gabriel, or the baby Jesus, whom she was carrying in the belly.) Called her from below her [saying,] ‘Do not grieve! Your Lord has made a spring to flow at your feet.” The Holy Quran; Maryam, 24 In order to put away the bulk of accusations away from Virgin Mary, for she gave birth to that child without a husband, and to console her, the holy Quran says “He will speak to people in the cradle and in adulthood, and will be one of the righteous.” Al-I Imran; 46 Mary is the guest of God God will entertain Mary during her pregnancy. As we read in the Holy Quran: “Shake the trunk of the palm tree, freshly picked dates will drop upon you.”Maryam, 25 Jesus is a servant of God as the others are! Christ's birth without the father can never be a reason to believe he is God, because the creation of Adam was even harder, since he did not even have a mother. The first word that Jesus said after he was born was: ‘Indeed I am a servant of Allah! Trinity According to the holy Quran, Trinity is considered as idolatry and blasphemy, and Jesus himself has renounced it. As the Holy Quran says:“They are certainly faithless who say, ‘Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary.’ But the Messiah had said, ‘O Children of Israel! Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. Indeed whoever ascribes partners to Allah, Allah shall forbid him [entry into] paradise, and his refuge shall be the Fire, and the wrongdoers will not have any helpers.’ They are certainly faithless who say, ‘Allah is the third [person] of a trinity.’While there is no good except the One God. If they do not relinquish what they say, there shall befall the faithless among them a painful punishment.” Al-Ma’idah; 72-73 They never killed or hanged Jesus Christ, but by mistake they hanged another man who had similarity to him. Those who argued about Jesus, they themselves were in doubt about their own beliefs, and they were following some illusions and false ideas. “And for their faithless, and their uttering a monstrous calumny against Mary, and their saying, ‘W killed the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, the apostle of Allah’- though they did not kill him nor did they crucify him, but so it was made to appear to them. Indeed those who differ concerning him are surely in doubt about him; they do not have any knowledge of that beyond following conjectures, and certainly they did not kill him. Rather Allah raised him up toward Himself, and Allah is all-mighty, all-wise.” The Holy Quran; Al-Nisa, 156-158 But in a verse we read:"When Allah said:"O Jesus, I shall take your soul, and I shall raise you up toward Myself, and I shall clear you of [the calumnies of] the faithless, and I shall set those who follow you above the faithless until the Day of Resurrection.” Al-I Imran, 55 The key point to this verse is that according to commentators, Toofy in the Holy Quran does not denote death, but it means getting and keeping. Rafia'kah also means “We have given you high dignity." The word Rafa means bestowing high respect. Tafsir-e- Almizan, Allamah Tabatabaii Vol. 3 Page 603 Jesus is mentioned about 33 times in the holy Quran and we Muslims hold Prophet Jesus in great reverence.
