Eating, Imam Sadiq (AS)’s Views Translated by: Fatemeh Khazaii The enlightening religion of Islam has supplied us with all we need for a happy fruitful life. In the Holy Qur’an and in narrations from the Infallible, all directions, rules and guidelines required by human beings for every time and subject have been presented, including on foods, eating and drinking. In this short article, however we content ourselves with citing a Hadith from Imam Jafar as-Sadiq (AS) in which (Hadith) His Holiness has advised his followers to “eat or drink from what you are served (by your host) when visiting brothers-in-faith at their homes to express your friendship and cordiality towards them.” In this regard, His Holiness has also pointed out that to value the food one is served by a friend, a relative and by every brother (or sister) in faith and to express desire and appreciation for that reveals one’s sincerity, affection and friendship towards them. Imam as-Sadiq (AS) has likewise been quoted as saying that: “The one who loves us eats with us with better appetite and liking….” As we see, our divine leaders have presented illuminating guidelines for, among all of their deeds, the manners of behaving ourselves in such a way as to express our love and respect to whom the same are due.
